Christmas Post Cards

I purchased a pattern, around 15 years ago, and have only recently gotten around to actually doing it.  I decided that I wanted to donated a quilt to my daughter's school, as I find it hard with my mobility disability to navigate the perils of her school.  Especially since the school has been undergoing renovations for the past couple of years.

The pattern is called Christmas Post Cards by The Chook Shed.  I believe the two woman who used to make up The Chook Shed no longer are in partnership together, which is a bit of a shame because I love their naive country style patterns.  I have done previous patterns of theirs in fact one of their patterns, Angels I made up into a single bed quilt for my daughter back when I first started IVF dreaming of having a daughter.  It has graced her bed ever since she was 2 and she is nearly 8 now.  I did make her another one last year, on request, as she wanted another quilt that she could take off her bed and drag about and snuggle up into on the floor (yikes) because she didn't want to drag her Angel one off the bed.  Unusally thoughtful of her!  But I am sure she was just saving herself the grief I would give her, should I sight such a thing!

I took this quilt today to Star of the Sea College and handed it over to the Principal, Mrs Phillips.  She thought that the quilt was so beautiful that instead of raffling it off, as I had originally proposed, that she would hang it instead in the lobby of the school, as a part of their yearly Christmas decorations.  Well how chuffed did I feel!!

Anyway, here it is, with me, Mrs Phillips and Delaney all holding it up for a photo.

I had originally intended to have this finished by May this year, but at least I got it finished before christmas!  I also made myself one at the same time.  I did all the blanket stitching via machine, something I had no done before.  I thought by doing one for myself as well, I would keep all the crappy stitching ones for myself and the school would get all the "good" efforts.  I think once I realised the benefit of turning the speed down to the lowest setting, Only the curves of the santa that ended up in my quilt look as though a blind drunk woman did the stitching, all the rest turned out pretty darn good if I do say so myself.  And I am now pretty good at the blanket stitching on the machine!!!
